IVECO BUS is advancing sustainable mobility in Messina with the delivery of twenty-nine E-WAY electric buses to ATM S.p.A. The supply is part of a wider fifty-four-vehicle procurement programme under the Consip framework agreement. The first units delivered include 9.5- and 12-metre E-WAY models designed for depot charging, with the standard version also equipped for pantograph charging. The remaining vehicles in the order, currently in production, will comprise twelve 18-metre E-WAY buses equipped with pantograph charging systems.

The new E-WAY buses are equipped with the latest-generation Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS), enabling continuous real-time fleet monitoring, optimised operations planning and precise performance management. Designed to meet the specific requirements of the city of Messina, they deliver a high-performance, zero-emission and sustainable mobility solution.

On board, passenger information systems enhance comfort and improve the overall passenger experience. The vehicles are also fitted with Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS), which contribute to a high level of safety for passengers, drivers, and other road users. Particular attention has been given to accessibility, with a dedicated wheelchair area and a boarding ramp facilitating easy access for all passengers.

With the commissioning of the new E-WAY buses, ATM Messina is taking a major step forward in the renewal of its fleet, making a tangible contribution to improved air quality, reduced noise pollution and enhanced passenger comfort. This investment is part of a long-term strategy aimed at supporting the transition towards increasingly modern, sustainable and innovative urban mobility.

Giorgio ZINO, Head of IVECO BUS Commercial Operations in Europe, stated: “We are proud to support ATM Messina on its energy transition journey with the delivery of these new high-performance E-WAY buses. Designed to meet the highest standards of performance, safety and comfort, these vehicles integrate advanced technologies that enable optimised fleet management while delivering a high-quality travel experience for passengers. With this delivery, Messina takes a major step towards more sustainable urban mobility, and IVECO BUS is honoured to contribute concretely to this ambition.”

Carla Grillo, President of ATM, stated:“ATM’s green fleet is continuously expanding, thanks to well-considered choices made as early as 2020 in close synergy with the City of Messina. Today, the company is asserting an increasingly strong ecological identity and is progressing along the path of ecological transition at a pace faster than the national average, as highlighted in the latest ASSTRA report. Furthermore, by June 2026, eighteen additional electric buses will be delivered, including twelve articulated vehicles that will be mainly assigned to the Shuttle line, as well as six eight-metre buses.”
