IVECO BUS supports Saint‑Nazaire’s HélYce+ project in France first articulated e-buses

On 28 January, the Saint-Nazaire Agglomeration officially inaugurated the entry into service of its first 25 articulated electric buses supplied by IVECO BUS. Delivered as part of the HélYce+ electromobility project, the GX 437 ELEC LINIUM – marketed in Europe as the E‑WAY LINIUM – are now operating on the electric Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) lines of the Stran network.

To implement its major electric mobility project, HélYce+, Saint-Nazaire Agglomeration in France selected the joint technical offer submitted by IVECO BUS together with its two technical partners, ABB E-mobility and Dalkia Electrotechnics. This comprehensive solution covers the supply of electric vehicles, charging infrastructure at the depot and terminal stations, as well as supervision and smart charging systems.

As part of the project, IVECO BUS has delivered the first batch of 25 GX 437 ELEC LINIUM*, which have been in operation on the electric BRT lines since 24 January 2026. A further 15 vehicles will be delivered between 2027 and 2030, bringing the total fleet to 40 articulated electric buses.

The inauguration ceremony was attended by David Samzun, President of the Saint-Nazaire Agglomeration; Christophe Cotta, Vice-President in charge of Mobility for the Saint-Nazaire Agglomeration and Chairman of Stran; several local elected representatives; and Sylvain Rochat, Managing Director of Stran.

“Ycéo and Hélyce are more than just a transport network; they represent a new way of designing public space in Saint-Nazaire and across the agglomeration, with more dedicated bus lanes, more cycle lanes, wider pavements and spaces redesigned for pedestrians. This means concretely building a more united, inclusive and peaceful city. Complemented by 100% electric buses for better air quality and reduced noise, this more accessible network strengthens our region’s resilience to climate change, for the benefit of the health of our fellow citizens, passengers and residents,” said David Samzun, Mayor of Saint-Nazaire and President of Saint-Nazaire Agglomeration.

“Offering a complete system means fully assuming the role of a true partner. We are proud to support the transformation of the public transport network in Saint-Nazaire towards mobility that is more sustainable, more innovative and more pleasant on a daily basis. By combining three areas of expertise, we are delivering a reliable, high-performance and quiet solution for the benefit of all,” said Giorgio ZINO, Head of IVECO BUS Commercial Operations in Europe.

In addition to supplying the articulated electric buses equipped with an upward pantograph charging system and providing one year of maintenance services, the partners’ technical offer includes five terminal stations and a bus depot equipped with transformers, chargers and 40 charging domes for overnight charging, supplied by ABB and installed by Dalkia Electrotechnics.
